The Essentials of Quality Construction and What to Avoid

When it comes to building the best outdoor structures, both in terms of quality and usability, Archadeck of Akron excels. Our decks, porches, and patios are carefully-planned to meet your every need and built to the highest quality standards.

If you are in search of a quick-fix outdoor living solution, we implore you to reconsider. In the age of HGTV, we tend to think that construction takes much less time than it actually does. We’re so used to seeing full-home renovations completed in one hour’s time, that we forget there is a lengthier process in place behind the scenes. What is never shown is purported shoddy work performed by TV contractors, all in the name of meeting show deadlines. We are not privy to construction being performed without proper permitting. We don’t realize that the furnishing and décor shown in the big reveal are taken away after filming. Let’s explore some proverbial laws to follow when planning to build your dream outdoor living space.

Quality takes time.

Patio with fire pit and colorful chairs

While we understand that by the time our clients contact us to begin planning their new outdoor living space, they are anxious to begin building. Second, only to the project completion date, the start date is the most anticipated facet of building a new deck, patio, or porch. It’s exciting to watch your space take shape, but there are proper steps to take. The Archadeck process is our roadmap to your successful project completion. It is in place to help us discern your outdoor living requirements, and imminently deliver the best possible solution for your home and family.

If you engage a local porch or deck builder, who says they can begin building your project tomorrow, do not hire them. Construction takes more planning than that, no exceptions.

Cheaper is not better.

One dollar

At Archadeck of Akron, we build every level of outdoor living construction, from budget-friendly decks to elaborate screened porches and sunrooms. If you are engaging two or more contractors to quote your project, be certain that they are giving you an apples-to-apples comparison. Fact is, if we quote your new deck to be built with composite decking, and another contractor quotes pressure-treated pine, their quote will be much less. However, your outdoor living will be different with natural wood versus low-maintenance decking. For instance, your deck will have to be maintained annually or bi-annually; sanded and painted or stained. Also, a pressure-treated wood decking is not guaranteed to last up to 50 years.

If another contractor gives you a direct comparison quote that is MUCH LESS than ours, you can expect hidden costs, change orders during construction, fewer quality materials, or in-proper installation which were not planned for. Your Archadeck of Akron quote will come with a complete project specification list, giving your every material that will be used to build your new space – and not hidden costs, ever. Another scenario would be that the cheaper quote means you get swindled out of your hard-earned cash for poor construction or an incomplete project.

Don’t be fooled by a super-inexpensive quote – you always get what you pay for. A cheap price tag is always going to be cheap construction! Read this blog about an actual project nightmare, where we were made aware of the low bidder’s lies and shoddy work.

Don’t believe everything you see on TV.

Old school cartoon TV

What we have to remember is that TV shows are made first for entertainment value. Yes, that even applies to home makeover and construction shows like you see on HGTV. Producing a successful show supersedes producing the highest-quality results for the guests featured on these shows. While they may have a great aesthetic in the big reveal, many have had major construction maladies over time after their makeovers, such as flooding basements and rotting structures. At Archadeck of Akron, we promise to endeavor to build the best space for your needs, and we guarantee our construction. Our outdoor living building process is totally transparent, and we are always available to answer your questions, before, during, and after your project is complete.
